Eating through the Weekend...

I was in Toronto for the weekend…boy oh boy did we eat! We left at around 4:30pm on Friday. We arrived Toronto/Markham at around 10:00-10:15pm. Our hotel was the Holiday Inn on Woodbine and Steeles. We got a great deal on it; $55/night through priceline.com. It was, as Kevin puts it, the best hotel stay we’ve ever had. I personally thought the Quebec City hotel we stayed at was fine, but I guess this one was equally good. The worst was the Ottawa one. We hardly slept. It was the Marriott Courtyard in Ottawa. We booked it for the night after Kev’s best friend’s wedding. I went back to the hotel with some friends first (without Kevin) and as we approached the hotel, some guys were arguing and shoving each other. Then we heard a pop and one guy was on the ground. He was tasered by a cop. The friend I was with was so tired that he didn’t even care, he just walked around them to get to the hotel entrance. I followed immediately. Anyway…back to my Toronto trip. After freshening up, the four of us joined J’s friend at Go for Tea. It’s a nice loungy bubble tea place. I have BBQ Eel on rice and shared a coconut milk tea with Kev. It was so delicious.

Day 2

We tried to sleep in…this was one of the few times that I actually woke up before Kev. It was 9am, I rolled around the King size best, hoping to wake Kev up so I could watch TV. He finally woke up/ stop pretending to be sleeping at 10:30. I believed I dozed on and off during that time. We met up with Chris for lunch at Boston Pizza. (not the best food). We wanted to check out T&T, as it was right next to it. But we had to go to a garage, because J noticed that we kept looking pressure in one of the tires. So we went to a Midas and the mechanic told us that there was a nail on the tire. However, that particular Midas did not have J’s tire model. So we asked them to check if there’s another Midas in Markham that has it. So we go to the other Midas, only to realize that J didn’t have the key to change the tire. The mechanic told us we should be able to go back to Montreal with the tire. But J felt uneasy about it, so we started talking about our options. We could leave the car with J’s parents’ in Mississauga and rent a car for the drive back, or have M’s mom in MTL find the key in their garage and send it by Purolator to us in time for Monday morning so we could get the car tire changed. But then it was risky, because J’s dad said Puro is not always very punctual. Finally, Kev suggested this product he saw on a Canadian Tire commercial. It’s this foam thing that is supposed to seal a leak for a period of time. (J went to buy it early Sunday morning.)

At around 5:30, J dropped Kev and I at Happy Jade restaurant for Kev’s grandparents’ birthday dinner. We got there, and no one was there. So we called Kev’s dad. He told us he was at the restaurant and we said “No, we’re at the restaurant.” They made restaurant change at the last minute and forgot to relay the message to us. So we had to have Kev’s uncle come pick us up. Dinner was ok. Typical Asian dinner…When we were leaving, Kev’s grandmother kept holding my hand and everyone laughed. I thought it was cute. It made me miss my grandma a lot. We hung out a bit at Kev’s uncle’s place for cake.

Day 3

The wedding ceremony was at 11:30am at Angus Glenn Golf club. This was the first outdoor wedding ceremony I’ve ever attended. It was really beautiful. It was also a really nice day. Thank God for the parasols, I would have burned to a crisp under that sun. All the pictures we took, I was squinting. After the ceremony, we went to Ten Ren for lunch. It’s another popular bubble tea place. It’s huge. I had a bowl of green tea noodles with beef. It was so yummy! We were all starved. I also ordered the mango ice dish. It’s shaved ice with fresh mangoes and mango syrup on top. So good!!! We went back to the hotel for a little nappy time, then headed out again around 6pm for the reception at the Golden Regency in Pacific Mall. By that time, I was hungry again and I wanted so much to buy “little chick eggs”. It’s like a waffle, but the shapes are little balls. It smelled so good. The wedding itself was really nice. One of the strangest things we saw was the parading of the roasted suckling pig. The MC announced we were going to begin eating and then the lights turned off and that spirit finger song from Bring it on came on. Have a listen: http://www.imeem.com/xenioritah01/music/FELEdlJK/bring_it_on_soundtrack_spirit_fingersmp3/

Each waiter had a pig and some of them had a sparkler on them. Then they just paraded the pigs around the room. It was very strange. The rest of the food was yummy…as they usually are at Chinese weddings.

Day 4

We checked out at 11:30am, went straight to T&T and ate lunch there. We didn’t buy much. We headed back towards Montreal at around 1:30pm. We hit traffic along the way. There was one part of the highway, it looked liked they tried to repair the roads, but the sun was so hot that it melted the tar and it was this gummy, glue-like substance that stuck on car tires. It was like the black stuff that made Spiderman Venom. We were afraid that the stuff would pull the nail out of the tire and we’d be stranded. It made it out okay…but then we hit the thunderstorm. It was craziness. We couldn’t see anything. Lots of cars pulled to the side of the road. It was quite a exciting trip. We finally made it home safely at 8pm.

Kev and I are both so exhausted. But we’re in Ontario again this coming weekend for Andrew’s Bday.

I wonder if that is not a Chinese thing. It happens in my family alot too where things will change at the last minute and absolutely no communication is happening lol.

Sounds like you had lots of yummy food. I now have a craving for BBQ eel.

Oh my gosh! Hi! You have a great blog! :D

All the bubbles went away after I put the jets on... there is something wrong with my jets... plus we had been in the bath for a long time before taking that photo hehehe.

I hope you like the bubble bar I got you because I wasn't sure but I got one of my favorites and one of the biggest. I also got the freshest and biggest we had from the backstore but it didn't have much color. This batch was not as pink as the other ones we used to get. Thank you so much for the ice cream, you shouldn't have payed! I had fun.
